Launched by Luton Point (formerly The Mall Luton), this is a podcast focussing on life within the Luton community. The podcast covers a number of topics surrounding everyday life in the town, finding out about those within the community who make others’ lives easier, safer and happier. The Luton Life podcast aims to provide a voice for the Luton community covered through question-and-answer sessions with local journalist Sophie Sulehria. Listeners can expect to hear real-life stories straight from the community, with real-life answers to questions which many will be able to relate to. Future editions will feature a focus on independent retailers, plus local charities and projects like Keech Hospice Care and the Big Trunk Trunk Trail, and Level Trust, all talking about their contribution to the town. Access to community services such as Luton Foodbank or Level Trust will be covered in an open and friendly way which those in need can benefit from. An industry first which has been fully curated and funded by Luton Point, all podcast sessions will be available to listen to for free through Spotify and Apple Podcasts.

The first instalment of Luton Life for 2022 focusses on public art installation Our River, commemorating those lost to the COVID-19 pandemic. Our River will also mark the support and kindness shown in the community and tell the stories of moments of joy that were found in the midst of the crisis. Keyworkers who contributed to the pandemic response will also be celebrated in the huge mosaic which will be installed on the exterior of The Mall.
In this episode, host Sophie Sulehria explores how the mural came to be and meets some of the incredible individuals who are featured. Sophie follows Project Co-ordinator Maureen Weekes and photographer June Essex as they visit Luton & Dunstable Hospital to capture shots of NHS staff who have worked tirelessly throughout the pandemic to care for members of the community.
She also speaks to Roy Greening, Centre Manager at The Mall who has been instrumental in bringing the project to life, not least with the logistics of installing the giant mural!
Luton Council is delivering Our River with support from the European Regional Development Fund’s Welcome Back Fund.
